Who We Are & What We Do: Peer Mentor Program

Mentors play a special part in everyone’s lives. The Peer Mentor Program also strives to be a leader in developing a community of young disabled individuals. This network will provide peer to peer support, networking opportunities, and empowerment to inpatients and outpatients at Children’s Specialized Hospital.

Become A Peer Mentor

Who can be a Peer Mentor:

Individuals between the ages of 16-30 years, who have congenital or physical/medical disabilities similar to the patient population served at Children’s Specialized Hospital. Mentors must be functioning age appropriately in terms of education, self care, social, and employment (where applicable). Mentor candidates must provide references that can speak to their participation during their hospitalization, medical care, and/or rehabililitation.

Peer Mentor Role and Responsibilities:

Peer Mentors may participate in Children’s Specialized Hospital, New Brunswick, inpatient support group and/or teen communication group, having the responsibility of both assisting staff and leading groups. Peer Mentors may also participate in monthly networking groups with inpatients, individuals from the community, and other Peer Mentors. Peer Mentors may provide supervised one-on-one mentoring.
