Who We Are & What We Do: Outpatient Autism Program

The Autism Program at Children’s Specialized Hospital is dedicated to improving the lives of children, adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their families by providing comprehensive evaluations, treatment, community education and research.  The hospital has one of the few programs in New Jersey that provides coordinated, multidisciplinary care for children, adolescents and their families affected by an autism spectrum disorder.

The Autism Program works with children from birth through 21 years of age, who have an autism spectrum disorder. Children’s Specialized Hospital is the largest regional provider of services for children with ASD . We are focused on early identification and treatment of autism so that kids can reach their full potential. Our highly qualified staff is committed to family-centered care. Professionals and families work together as partners in making sure that children get the services they need.

Children’s Specialized Hospital is at the forefront of research for treatment and diagnosis of autism. The hospital is conducting various clinical studies related to improving diagnosis and treatment for children, adolescents and families affected by autism spectrum disorders. Recent or ongoing studies include a National Institute of Health (NIH)-sponsored study of children with a regressive form of autism, genetics of autism, medication studies, validation studies for new diagnostic tools, determination of diagnostic pathways, autism screening within underserved populations, and evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment.
