Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation Rallies Around
NJ Communities in COVID-19 Relief Effort

Better Together Initiative Drives Customers to Retail & Restaurants This Summer

Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation is launching the Better Together initiative this summer in an effort to support local businesses while raising funds for the hospital’s 13 locations across New Jersey. The COVID-19 crisis has been difficult for everyone, but it has been especially difficult for small businesses and health care facilities. Over the last few months, community organizations, local businesses, and Children’s Miracle Network Hospital partners have been extremely supportive of Children’s Specialized Hospital, donating PPE (personal protective equipment), providing meals for staff, and hosting fundraisers. Touched by the generosity of their supporters and members of the community, the Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation developed the Better Together initiative to show their appreciation and help struggling local businesses as New Jersey slowly reopens.

Local businesses can participate in the Better Together initiative by hosting simple, no-hassle fundraisers like give back nights, miracle balloon campaigns, round up the change campaigns, or any fundraising event of their choice between July 13th and September 13th. The Foundation will provide promotional materials to each business and encourage patronization of participating businesses through advertising. Working together, our communities can make a greater impact on our local economies, the success of small businesses, and the lives of thousands of local children with special health care needs.

Philip Salerno III, Chief Development Officer for the Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation explains the importance of this initiative. “We were so touched by the generosity of our community during the COVID-19 crisis, we wanted to give back. The premise of the Better Together initiative is simple: we are better together because together, we give hope…to our patients and their families, to our community, and to each other.”

Additionally, the Better Together initiative will feature a Restaurant Week from August 24th through 30th to support local restaurants across New Jersey. Any restaurant may sign up to be a Featured Chef, Miracle Chef or Champion Chef during that week, featuring special menu items to honor the kids at Children’s Specialized Hospital. By donating back a portion of the proceeds from the week, hosting a give-back night, or putting out a donation canister, these restaurants will rally their community to raise funds for the programs at Children’s Specialized Hospital that provide life-changing care for over 38,000 children facing chronic illnesses and complex medical conditions each year.

Fred Rauchbach owns three DQ restaurants in New Jersey and regularly participates in Children’s Miracle Network Hospital campaigns that benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital. When asked why, he simply said, “We love helping kids in need.”
